August was a big epiphany for me. Prior to this, I’d been using very poorly set film sims on my camera for what I thought would be good for specific use cases, like if I wanted a vivid color preset, a contrasty preset, black and white preset, etc, but eventually I just figured I’m not smart enough to do this very specific color grading on my own and just needed to download some film recipes from elsewhere. That’s when I found a website filled with a bunch of recipes and quickly I filled out 6/7 of my presets with some various ones for different use-cases. Unfortunately, the X-T20 does more limited recipe options compared to more modern contemporaries after the X-T3 (namely color chrome options and per-preset white balance meaning I have to keep a note of which presets use which temperature), but they still do the job very well otherwise. The first booth shot is probably one of my favorite shots I’ve gotten yet. For this particular set of photos, I ran using a Kodak Portra 160 recipe: https://film.recipes/2024/02/24/kodak-portra-160-film-recipe/
From there, we went to one of our favorite local diners Gracie’s in downtown Bastrop and the booths and nearby decorum were just too photogenic to not grab. Some photos (like the frog statuette) are slightly shaky but not enough to be a hindrance to the full photo. Overall, this set was a big jump in quality compared to my prior photos.
