Another trip to Downtown Bastrop, this time I believe to Anita’s, we came across a lady making something of a rain effigy by drawing a sea turtle in chalk in a familiar alleyway, hoping for some rain on what was otherwise a rather overcast day. Unfortunately, we only got maybe 5 minutes of rain. For my first candid talking with the subject right there, I think it went decent, especially the portrait shot. She also asked for an Instagram and I only had Twitter, and I guess she never found me as I never got contacted. Oh well. I did end up finally caving and made an Instagram after that.

My mother’s late boyfriend’s friends would occasionally drop by this place and it was pretty well received in general, so we finally made the trek one day and had a decent pizza and calzone. I wasn’t totally wowed by my food, but the decor was very nicely rustic, especially the bar in the back that is incredibly camouflaged to the point it’s a complete surprise such a big room exists there.

Finally, to round off the end of September and reward myself for sticking with just the 35mm prime lens for 6 months, I finally bit the bullet on a decent zoom. I’d wanted something like 50-150 or 70-250 for a while to have additional flexibility, and the XC 50-230mm F4.5-6.7 was pretty much the only AF lens that didn’t cost an arm and a leg, costing me more around the $280 mark. These above photos are pretty much just taken from within the house out at things near our neighborhood.
